Bengaluru CJP protest LIVE updates: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) celebrated YouTuber Dhruv Rathee’s birthday after his speech at Bengaluru’s Freedom park on Thursday. Rathee attended the CJP’s Bengaluru protest along with actor Prakash Raj seeking CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over the alleged discrepanices in the SIR process.
Raj on Thursday demanded scrapping the SIR exercise, alleging it was not merely about deletion of votes, but an attack on the dignity and rights of citizens.
CEC Gyanesh Kumar is “acting at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah,” he alleged, addressing a protest christened ‘people’s tribunal,’ held by civil societies and the CJP here against the SIR.
The demonstration will also have a People’s Tribunal where people from across Karnataka impacted by the SIR will raise concerns over alleged wrongful deletions from voter lists. This will be followed by “Chappal protest” in solidarity with women.
Rathee confirmed his participation after Prakash Raj announced his presence at Freedom Park. JNU student leader Aishe Ghosh, Neha Bora, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and other youth and civil society representatives are also expected to attend.
The CJP and allied groups have demanded that deletions made during the SIR exercise be scrapped and the pre-SIR electoral rolls retained. They have also sought the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging irregularities in the electoral process.
Dhruv Rathee says ‘not here for regime change’
YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was among the popular faces who joined the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)’s Bengaluru protest on Thursday. In his first remarks at the stir, he said he did not participate in the protest for ‘regime change”, news agency PTI reported.
Slamming the Election Commission of India (ECI) over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), he alleged that there is ‘zero transparency and zero accountability’ from the poll body.
Actor Prakash Raj’s request for participation in stir
On Wednesday, actor Prakash Raj Raj urged the people to participate in Bengaluru’s anti-CEC protest called by the CJP as he also announced Dhruv Rathee’s participation.
“Please come in large numbers! Stand with all the cockroaches who will be there. Aishe Ghosh will be there. Neha Bora will be there. All young organisations will be there. Civil Society will be there. And the victims of SIR from across the districts of Karnataka will be there. Let’s come together to raise our voice in solidarity against this draconian SIR,” Raj said in the video.
